Dear Friends,
Why does time seem like it’s going by so fast?
Growing up, my parents warned me about this, but I only understood this once I experienced it myself: as you get older, time flies quicker.
Thinking about this catches me off guard, because it’s impossible to add more time to a day. One way I can think about it is that as a kid, we haven’t had many experiences. As we grow older, we experience more things and our days get busier.
Looking back to a year from now, it hardly seems like so long ago. The coronavirus was a distant myth then. The several months spent in isolation and quarantine between then and now seem to have gone by surprisingly quickly.
As we look back, we had long days to fill during isolation. We couldn’t go out and experience new things. When we inevitably spend everyday at home, days begin to seem similar.
This past year, we’ve created fewer memories making it seem like the year has passed by much quicker and that we’ve lost time.
However, I want to stop speaking about the past. I want to look forward.
When we think about the past, we can lose our focus on the present.
So much has been going wrong this past year that we continuously come back to dwell on it. However, we forget about all the good to come ahead.
“Today is the first day of the rest of your life” - Charles Dederich.
The past can’t be changed. We can look back and feel nostalgic about it, and that’s okay.
However, we must live in the present and make the future whatever we want it to be.
Look forward to looking forward!
